Our abandoned vehicle service
Our team will make every effort to track down the owner of the vehicle. We will serve an abandoned notice on the vehicle and take photographs of it as evidence, along with photographs to document the condition of the vehicle. We’ll check for current tax, insurance and registered owner with the DVLA. We’ll also run an HPI check to see if the vehicle has a finance agreement in place.
What happens next?
Once the vehicle has had an abandoned notice served, we will contact the police to for a reference number, then wait for the owner to contact us. If there is no contact within the allotted time, we will arrange for a new notice given the owner a deadline by which to claim their property. This will be hand delivered to the last known registered keeper’s address held by the DVLA.
If the vehicle remains unclaimed
After the deadline for claiming the vehicle expires, we will discuss your options, including disposal or sale at auction if the vehicle has sufficient value. If we are required to dispose of the vehicle, we will ascertain the costs involved and agree these with you before proceeding. What counts as an abandoned vehicle?
This is a tricky question, as there is no legal definition, and it is necessary to consider a number of points when ascertaining if a vehicle is abandoned or not. However, the following points are common indicators that a vehicle may be abandoned:
